The U.S. Senate Minority (Democratic) Labor Office of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (HELP), Senator Patty Murray, seeks three unpaid interns for the summer of 2015. The positions offer undergraduate students the opportunity to gain substantive experience while participating in the legislative process. Interns’ responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting Committee staff in performing office duties, conducting research, analyzing legislation, drafting memorandums, and organizing hearings.
HELP Committee: The Labor Policy Office of the HELP Committee works on a wide range of workforce-related matters, including: labor rights, pension and retirement issues, worker health and safety, equal employment opportunity and civil rights, wage and hour protections, and family and medical leave.
Qualifications: Applicants should have an interest in labor and employment issues and a desire to learn more about labor and employment policy. They also must have good attention to detail, work well under pressure, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and have a desire to learn. Hours are flexible, but applicants should be willing to be in the office at least 24 hours a week.
