White House Tree Lighting Ceremony, December 2016

GW College Democrats had the opportunity to volunteer at the White House’s national tree lighting ceremony, where students spent the day helping set up for the annual holiday event. That evening, students were invited to watch the ceremony and saw various performances in addition to President Obama’s very last tree lighting ritual.


Demsgiving, November 2016

For GW College Democrats’ annual Thanksgiving potluck, Demsgiving, students joined together as a Dems family to eat turkey and other Thanksgiving food classics and listen to holiday music. The dinner was a great opportunity to spend time with friends and reflect on what we’re thankful for before heading off for break.


DEFENDING THE PLATFORM DEBATE (AGAINST GW COLLEGE REPUBLICANS), OCTOBER 2016

In an event hosted by WRGW District Radio, both College Democrats and College Republicans joined together to discuss their party’s respective platforms and vision for American. In addition to the set questions asked by the moderators in a formal debate format, at the end of the event, students were encouraged to pose their own questions to the debate panel. The students debated policies including climate change, immigration, jobs, college education, etc.


PENNSYLVANIA CAMPAIGN TRIP, OCTOBER 2016

Just two weeks before the election, GW College Democrats spent their fall break volunteering for Hillary for PA, 2016 PA Senate candidate Katie McGinty, and NARAL in Pennsylvania. In addition to canvassing in numerous neighborhoods and making thousands of phone calls, students had the opportunity to attend Pennsylvania’s final senate debate between Pat Toomey and Katie McGinty, and even had the chance to see Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine speak in Philadelphia.


DONNA EDWARDS, OCTOBER 2016

In October, GW Democrats hosted our event, “What it Takes to Be Ahead of Your Time” with Representative Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) and author, writer, and interviewer Marianne Schnall. Students listened in on their conversation regarding the importance of gender and racial parity in the leadership of our communities and our country.


NORTH CAROLINA CAMPAIGN TRIP, SEPTEMBER 2016

On the third full weekend of school, over 100 GW College Democrats traveled to Raleigh to volunteer with the North Carolina Democratic Party. In addition to leading voter registration efforts in numerous locations throughout the city, students had the opportunity to hear Gloria Steinem speak about the importance of the 2016 election. On the last day of the trip, students worked with the Hillary Clinton HQ and made volunteer recruitment calls. At the conclusion of the trip, GW Dems made over 10,000 calls and registered hundreds to vote.

The 2016 #OnlyAtGW Debate featured Former White House Press Secretary Jay Carney debating on behalf of the GW College Democrats versus former Republican Congressman Allen West on behalf of the GW College Republicans. The event was moderated by alumna Hadas Gold of Politico.


#PINKOUTGALA, JANUARY 2016

Last January, GW College Democrats teamed up with Planned Parenthood for our annual winter gala. Students dressed in their finest pink attire and celebrated the organization’s mission of providing men and women alike with unfettered access to reproductive health care. GW College Democrats collected voluntary donations which were all donated to Planned Parenthood.

For their fall kickoff speaker, GW College Democrats hosted Ezra Klein – founder and editor-in-chief of Vox.com – to discuss the media’s pivotal role in the 2016 election.
