Thursday, September 7, 2017 - Donald Jr.'s secret Russia meetings revealed
In the latest installment of our international collusion saga, it was revealed on September 7th that Donald Trump Jr.'s Russia meeting did not actually align with his previously stated purpose. This continues to change the trajectory of the investigation, as Trump Jr. initially denied that the meeting ever happened. Then, in March, he admitted that it did happen, but that the meeting was focused on adoption policy, an assertion that the president himself confirmed. Alas, that was shockingly not the purpose of the meeting. Instead, it appears that the meeting was in response to a Russian offer to help the Trump campaign find dirt on Hillary Clinton. Of course, according to Don Jr., the meeting overall doesn't matter because they didn't discover anything worthwhile. Figures.
Sunday, September 10, 2017 - White House Director of Social Media tweets false video of Hurricane Irma
For once, the "fake news" alarm that President Trump consistently sounds off was legitimate, but probably not in the way that he intended it to be. On Sunday, White House Director of Social Media Dan Scavino tweeted a video that he claimed showed the Miami International Airport in the midst of Hurricane Irma. However, MIA itself was quick to fact check Scavino, stating that the video was not of their airport. Instead, it actually showed an airport in Mexico City during an onslaught of rain in late August. Gotta love when the man in charge of verification is responsible for spreading false information.
Monday, September 11, 2017 - Pope Francis condemns Trump's DACA threat
When the Pope is condemning your actions, you know something is wrong. On the 16th anniversary of the terrorist attack on 9/11, Pope Francis criticized President Trump, saying that he "presents himself as pro-life," but that by taking away the DACA program Trump is not truly. President Trump fired back, saying that the Pope was in no position to judge his faith, but honestly, of all people it seems as though the literal Pope is the most justified of anyone to judge another's faith. This is not the first time that the leader of the Catholic Church has criticized Trump's actions - early this summer, he urged the President (to no avail) to remain a part of the Paris Climate Accord and fight against climate change.
Tuesday, September 12, 2017 - Trump announces refugee cap
On Tuesday, the President of the United States announced that the country had reached its refugee "limit" of 50,000, and that no more would be allowed into the country this fiscal year. To put this into perspective, last year, Germany came under fire for admitting only 300,000 refugees, a country that has a fourth of the population of the US. Many of these refugees have already completed the two-year vetting process, but will not be allowed entrance until the next fiscal year, because GOD FORBID that we help those in need.
Tweet of the week:
This week's Trump tweet of the week was chosen for its deeper meaning: that Trump still can't get over Hillary Clinton. First off, he clearly didn't read her book, as she states countless times that she is to blame for her loss of the 2016 election. Secondly, why is he still talking about the debates? Did it really hurt his ego that badly that he's still talking about it a year later? Dude, we get it. You lost the popular vote, and yet you're still the President. It's time to move on.
