Please join us this Sunday, Monday or for Election Day on Tuesday for our GOTV (Get Out the Vote) efforts to fill Attorney General Mark Herring’s state senate seat in the Virginia’s 33rd district. We are fortunate enough to have endorsed a strong pro-women’s health candidate, Jennifer Wexton, and she needs our help during this final week! Wexton’s opponents do not support women’s health, and do not believe that women should get to make their own personal medical decisions, making this ace even more important. Currently, there are only six women serving in the 40-person senate and winning this election would mean Democrats having a tie-breaking vote in the State Senate. This is huge because if we win, we maintain the 20-20 balance in the state Senate and newly elected Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam will be able to break ties in favor of Democrats and in favor of pro- women’s health legislation. This would then allow Governor Terry McAuliffe, who won office last year on an explicitly liberal platform to have more leverage with the GOP-controlled state House of Delegates. Please come out and join us in these final days before this very important election.

URGENCY!!
Jennifer Wexton is the Democratic candidate in this Special Election. President Obama carried the 33rd district with 59 percent of the vote in 2012, but as we’ve seen time and time again, so many of our voters just don’t show up at the polls during off year or special elections. We are targeting mainly Democratic voters who we need to show up on Election Day. We know when there isn’t a presidential race on the ballot that we have to make sure voters are aware of how high the stakes still are and the urgency attached to the election. In last week’s special election on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, Democratic candidate Lynwood Lewis came out ahead by only 9 votes. 9 votes! We need to do everything we can to win this seat and put a strong pro-women’s health female candidate, Jennifer Wexton, in this seat.
Thank you for everything that you care about and do for women’s health.
