The GW College Democrats, Program Board, GW NAACP, and the Student Association are proud to present a screening of “American Blackout.”

Whatever you think you know about our election systems or Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, this film will make you question further why the news media fails to accurately inform the public. Directed by GNN’s Ian Inaba, creator of Eminem’s “Mosh” music video, American Blackout critically examines the contemporary tactics used to control our democratic process and silence voices of political dissent.

Many have heard of the alleged voting irregularities that occurred during the presidential elections of 2000 and 2004. Until now, these incidents have gone under- reported and are commonly written-off as insignificant rumors or unintentional mishaps resulting from an overburdened election system.

American Blackout chronicles the recurring patterns of voter disenfranchisement from Florida 2000 to Ohio 2004 while following the story of Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney. Mckinney not only took an active role investigating these election debacles, but has found herself in the middle of her own after publicly questioning the Bush Administration about the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

  • When: Thursday, November 2, 2006, 8:00pm
  • Where: MC Continental Ballroom

For more information about the film, visit the “American Blackout” website at http://www.americanblackout.org/background.html?pageName=description  We look forward to seeing you at this incredible film!  FREE PIZZA AND DRINKS FOR THOSE WHO ATTEND!!!

On Wednesday, November 1, 2006, as the United States prepares to elect a new Congress, the Enosinian Society will consider the health of contemporary American democracy. While Republicans and Democrats across the country are fighting talking-point campaign battles, the Enosinian Society has invited leading representiaves of both major parties to speak at our upcoming debate. These talented student speakers have been asked to go beyond the parties’ rhetoric, to offer views on the state of Amrerican democracy from the perspectives of both the conservative and liberal intellectual traditions. What do modern politics and recent history mean for the democratic process? What can we expect of America’s future?

  • When: Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at 8:00pm
