Executive Board Election Information

The elections for the 2008-2009 GW College Democrats Executive Board will be held on April 7 at 7PM in Funger Hall 108. Candidacy statements are due no later than April 4 at 11PM and should be no more than 300 words. Please e-mail your statement to the Election Commission. In order to vote or run in the election, you must be a paid member by 11PM on April 4. Office hours in MC422 will be held until 11PM to pay the dues. If you are unsure whether you are a paid member, please e-mail membership.

After the election, applications for the 7 appointed positions will be made available. Deadlines will be announced soon.

Description of Positions

PRESIDENT (elected):
The President will be the official spokesperson for the College Democrats. The President will act as the Presiding Officer over all Executive Board meetings and ensure that an agenda is formulated for each meeting. He or she will be responsible for general oversight of the organization and members of the Executive Board.

VICE PRESIDENT (elected):
The Vice President will assist the President in all official duties. If the President is unable to fulfill their duties, the Vice President will then act as the Presiding Officer for the organization. The Vice President will also serve as the administrative officer for the College Democrats and will be in charge of all scheduling and space duties. He or she will also provide oversight of the Executive Board and long-term strategy for the College Democrats.

EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT (appointed):
The Executive Assistant will manage all of the secretarial duties of the College Democrats. In addition to taking minutes at meetings and managing administrative paperwork and record-keeping for the College Democrats, the Secretary will also serve as the special projects manager for the Executive Board.

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR (elected):
The Communications Director will be responsible for correspondence with press, for representing the organization to the media, and for crafting the overall message of the College Democrats by coordinating between the assistant directors' respective duties The Director also coordinates with the Executive Board in confirming event details and sharing them with her/his communications team.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PUBLICITY (appointed):
The Assistant Director of Publicity will be responsible for the design of posters, palm cars, and all other publicity for the College Democrats. This includes all mediums outside electronic communication and dealing directly with the press.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS (appointed):
The Assistant Director of Electronic Communications will be responsible for updating the College Democrats’ website, managing the listserv, managing the College Democrats’ Facebook account, and sending out emails to the general membership body. He or she will also be in charge of updating the online internship database.

POLITICAL COMMITTEE

POLITICAL AFFAIRS DIRECTOR (elected): The Political Affairs Director will have two primary tasks. The first is to oversee the planning, organization, and execution of all political events. The second task is to craft the political and policy messages for the College Democrats. He or she will have a special focus on the 2008 Presidential election and ensuring political engagement in the GW community. The Political Director will also serve as the primary liaison between all outside groups and the College Democrats.

ASSISTANT ON-CAMPUS POLITICAL DIRECTOR (appointed):
The Assistant On-Campus Political Director will be responsible for organizing and executing all on-campus College Democrats events. This includes but is not limited to securing speakers, organizing grassroots training, and planning political panels and discussions. The Assistant On-Campus Political Director will also work to increase Democratic activism, awareness, and values around the George Washington University. The Assistant On-Campus Political Director will also serve as the secondary liaison between on campus student groups and the College Democrats.

ASSISTANT OFF-CAMPUS POLITICAL DIRECTOR (appointed):
The Assistant On-Campus Political Director will be responsible for organizing and executing all off-campus College Democrats events. This includes but is not limited to campaign trips, trainings, opportunities around Capitol Hill or the larger DC area, and any other political event that occurs off-campus. The Assistant Off-Campus Political Director will also serve as the secondary liaison between Democratic and Progressive groups and the College Democrats.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR (elected):
The Membership Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing all social events for the College Democrats. This includes but is not limited to tabling events, organizational parties, and membership events. This position is designed to help maintain the social atmosphere of the organization through event planning but the primary focus of this position is to recruit members to the Democratic Party.

FRESHMEN REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE FOGGY BOTTOM CAMPUS (to be elected by the Class of 2012 in Fall 2008):
The Freshmen Representative for the Foggy Bottom Campus will be a liaison between the College Democrats and the freshmen class located on the Foggy Bottom Campus. He or she will serve as an assistant to the Social Director. He or she will also be responsible for organizing and overseeing the Freshmen Action Committee (along with the Freshmen Representative for the Mount Vernon Campus).

FRESHMEN REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE MOUNT VERNON CAMPUS (to be elected by the Class of 2012 in Fall 2008):
The Freshmen Representative for the Mount Vernon will be a liaison between the College Democrats and the freshmen class located on the Mount Vernon Campus. He or she will serve as an assistant to the Social Director. He or she will also be responsible for organizing and overseeing the Freshmen Action Committee (along with the Freshmen Representative for the Foggy Bottom Campus).

COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE

COMMUNITY SERVICE DIRECTOR (elected):
The Community Service Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing all community service events for the College Democrats. He or she will also work closely with the Fundraising Director to raise donation money for important causes and organizations.

ASSISTANT COMMUNITY SERVICE DIRECTOR (appointed):
The Assistant Community Service Director will assist with the duties of the Community Service Director. This includes helping to plan, organize, and execute all community service events for the College Democrats.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

FINANCE DIRECTOR (elected):
The Finance Director shall be responsible for all financial and monetary duties of the College Democrats. This includes maintaining an accurate accounting of the College Democrats’ budget, submitting all necessary financial paperwork to the Student Association and Student Activities Center, helping to construct the College Democrats’ budget, and submitting budget reports at least two times per semester to the Executive Board.

FUNDRAISING DIRECTOR (appointed):
The Fundraising Director will be responsible for generating additional outside funds for the College Democrats. He or she will create a fundraising plan including contacting donors, organizing fundraising events, and securing corporate sponsorships and donations. Aditionally, he or she will be responsible for organizing an alumni outreach network for the College Democrats. He or she will be responsible for submitting fundraising reports at least two times per semester to the Executive Board.
