GW College Democrats Endorse September 15 March

To protest a war that has gone on for far too long – and that should have never been waged in the first place – the GW College Democrats will participate in a major March to End the War in Iraq September 15th in Washington, D.C. The GW College Democrats are also endorsing the week of action and activism that it has planned following the protest.
GW students and other Anti-war activists will be marching from the White House down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol. At the Capitol, marchers will take part in a “die-in” where participants will represent soldiers and Iraqis who died as a result of this war. At both ends of Pennsylvania, activists will hear from anti-war speakers, including members of Iraq Veterans Against the War. The GW College Democrats will gather on the morning of September 15th in Kogan Plaza at 10:00AM.
Democrats in Congress have done everything within their power to end this war, but President Bush, and his lockstep Republicans, refuse to accept reality. This summer, Congress passed a war funding bill that put us on clear and responsible path to bringing home our troops by next spring. Yet President Bush and Congressional Republicans chose to ignore the will of the American people by vetoing this bill. However, once President Bush and his Republican allies in Congress sees how determined the American public is to end this war; they will have no choice but to acknowledge reality and bring home our brave fighting men and women.
Let us never forget that the power in America ultimately rests with the people. We have the power to end this war by standing up to President Bush and his rubber “stamp” Congressional Republican allies. This march is just one of many actions that the College Democrats are taking to make our voices heard on this most important issue.
